Long Beach Island is a barrier island in New Jersey along the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a popular summer destination and as such, my sister owns a beach house there. I was lucky enough to visit her in Beach Haven over Labor Day Weekend. Here’s 5 things you can do while on LBI-

Explore on Bike

Besides going to the beach, one of the best things to do is ride your bike through town looking at the cute houses and pretty landscaping. Even the library is adorable.

Visit Fantasy Island Amusement Park

Fantasy Island is fun for the whole family. Here you’ll find rides, an arcade and boardwalk games. I did not go this trip but plan on taking my kids when we visit next summer.

Shopping at Schooner’s Wharf

Located on Bay Avenue (the main drag) is Schooner’s Wharf, a fun place to walk around and shop. Make sure to grab some fudge from John Maschal’s. I like to buy Christmas ornaments so I popped into YuleTIDE, a fun boutique bursting with Christmas decor. They have a sign outside the door telling you how many days until Christmas.

Go to the Beach

We can’t talk about Long Beach Island and not mention the beach. We went to the beach in Beach Haven because it’s only a few minutes walk from my sister’s place. The beaches are clean and during the busier seasons have life guards on site. From April – September you need what is called a beach badge, basically a pass to go to the beach. Street parking is free throughout Long Beach Island.

Visit the Farmer’s Market

The Beach Haven farmer’s market is held at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Fridays (and some Saturdays) throughout high season. You can check the town website for a calendar of events.
